PROJECT PROFILE

  • Project Requirements: Immediate fuel containment tanks
  • Products Needed: Fourteen 21,000-gallon closed-top tanks with containment berms

The Emergency

Emergencies demand an immediate, rapid response. Whether it’s after business hours or Friday before a holiday, it’s important to deliver clients a response as fast as possible.

At around 2 PM on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, a fire broke out a liquid storage facility in Crocket, CA, causing two storage tanks housing 250,000 gallons of ethanol to explode. The resulting inferno sent thick plumes of black smoke into the air that could be seen across the Bay Area, closing nearby Interstate 80, and necessitating surrounding communities to shelter in place. Top concerns included:

  • Hazardous air quality
  • Fire risk to adjacent storage tanks

After hours of working to gain control of the situation, the fire reignited at around 7 PM. Intense flames went up against the surrounding tanks housing jet fuel. The infrastructure connecting all the tanks was now damaged and spilled fuel posed a risk of reigniting the fire. It was imperative that cleanup and containment efforts begin as quickly and safely as possible. At 7 PM the company called Adler Tank Rentals requesting containment tanks.

The Solution

In less than 24 hours, Adler delivered two 21,000-gallon closed-top tanks with containment berms to successfully contain the hazardous liquids and minimize the risk of fire spreading. Because cleanup had to begin immediately, Adler also provided the company with:
